Interior design process

STEP 1: NEEDS ASSESSMENT

The needs assessment stage is probably the most important part of the entire process. It ensures the design is fully tailored to your expectations and lifestyle.

I send you a questionnaire with key questions about your budget, the scope of work, and your interior style preferences. I also ask you to share photos of the space and – if possible – a floor plan. 

STEP 2: CONSULTATION (1,5hr)

We meet for a site visit to go through your questionnaire answers and discuss the project in detail. I also take all the necessary measurements.

If the project is located farther away from Amstelveen and surrounding area, we meet online and the measurements are taken by the owner. 

STEP 3: CONCEPT

During the consultation we discuss the overall concept – style, colour palette, furniture, décor, lighting and materials, as well as the intended function of the room.

  • Interior design advice . Extensive advice on layout, use of colour, furniture, upholstery, materials and accessories.
  • Style analysis. What is your style or maybe you prefer a mix of styles and how can you translate that to your interior.
  • (re)styling. I show you how to give the furniture you are attached to a second life by, for example, changing the context.
  • Lighting . How can you use lighting to optimize your space and as an eye-catcher?
  • Purchasing tips . To avoid bad purchases. What to look for when purchasing furniture, lighting and accessories.
  • Action plan . Where is the best place to start with the (re)styling of your interior.

If there is a need for more extensive advice, there is a possibility to expand the package.

 

After the consultation I send via email a moodboard: an inspiration board that visually presents the direction of the proposed changes, along with a short description to help you picture the final result.

STEP 4: 2D FUNCTIONAL LAYOUT

In some cases I prepare 2D functional floor plans – a layout showing the placement of all furniture included in the project.

This stage is used only for larger makeovers. If we’re changing only décor and accessories, floor plans aren’t necessary. 

STEP 5: SHOPPING LIST

The final stage could be creating a shopping list – a complete list of all items used in the project, including quantities and where to buy them (usually with a link to the online store).
